Why should I join?
If you follow the links to the projects supported by the Atlantic Team you will see that, as team leader, I have tried to pick projects that have a positive impact on our quality of life. Either through the advancement of science or research that can help provide raw data used to find cures for disease.
The way I look at it, it’s like volunteering in a lab crunching numbers without the bother of the commute. The BOINC project manager software runs in the background, just like your anti-virus software. Your computer receives project files, crunches numbers during free CPU time, and sends the results back.
As you complete projects, you are awarded “credits”. They have no cash value, but you get the satisfication of seeing a direct results of your (computer’s) efforts. It’s very statisfying, almost addictive, in fact.
